Most buyers focus on peak brightness and CRI numbers. They compare spreadsheets. They ask which light has the highest output for the lowest dollar per watt. And they're missing the entire point.

The question everyone asks is 'how bright is it?' The question they should ask is 'will it still be working when I'm on hour 14 of a 16-hour shoot, in a location that just lost power, with a DP who's already past his breaking point?'

Here’s my view, after reviewing hundreds of lighting fixtures for film and photography: if you're buying for professional production, the price of a light is less important than the price of its failure. And that means you should pay a premium for certainty.

The Illusion of the 'Good Enough' Light
