At the production-lighting rental company where I work, I'm the person who gets the 9:30 p.m. phone call. The one that starts with, “The truck leaves at 4 a.m., and the modifier is in the wrong state.” In the last six years, I've coordinated more than 200 rush orders—including same-day turnarounds for commercial production clients. I've written this because I keep seeing the same mistake: teams treat an emergency modifier order as if it were a normal purchase with a faster shipping box.

Here's my position: I'm not against paying a rush fee. I'm against paying for “probably.” The difference is the entire argument.

Pay for certainty. Not because you're being extravagant, but because an emergency is already a bet. Bet only on things you can verify.
